SEATING & MOBILITY CLINIC

The seating and mobility clinic at the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital provides comprehensive consultation, evaluation and fitting of wheelchairs and pressure cushions or specialised seating devices for patients with various physical disabilities. We have a specialised pressure mapping system which is a mat with sensors connected to a computer, helping in making clinical decisions to choose the right wheelchair and cushions

The provision of correct seating requirements to maintain good posture , meet any pressure and mobility needs which is essential to ensure effective and efficient performance in mobility and functions of daily life. Selection of an appropriate wheelchair is very important process in rehabilitation especially when an individual depends on wheelchair for mobility. The seating and mobility clinic at Royal Bucks provides comprehensive consultation, evaluation and fitting of wheelchairs or specialised seating devices for patients with various physical disabilities.

Each person who comes to the Seating and Mobility Clinic undergoes a complete evaluation which includes :pertinent medical history; environmental and activity needs; caregiver needs; method of transportation in the community; sensation and skin integrity; postural alignment; range of motion and strength; functional mobility; and measurement for a wheelchair/seating system. Detailed evaluation of posture using expert clinical skills and specialised diagnostic tools such as pressure mapping system. Review of posture in existing wheelchair and cushion. Recommendations may include modifications to the client's current wheelchair or seating system and/or justification for new or different equipment Recommendations for an appropriate wheelchair and pressure cushion Information and education on management of posture in and out of a wheelchair and to ensure skin integrity.  Clients will have trial and demonstration of equipment needed to ensure a good sitting posture. Provision of a formal and detailed assessment reports where appropriate reports for wheelchair service.
