A Fellowship in knee surgery took him to Lyon, France. Another in orthopaedic oncology took place at Walter Reid Hospital in Washington and Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
By 1996, Professor Gibbons had been added to the GMC’s specialist register in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. Hospital consultancy and more senior appointments followed, such as serving as Director of a National Sarcoma Unit.
Professor Gibbons direct support for patients is at an equally high level. He specialises in hip and knee replacement surgery, along with holding a strong interest in surgical treatment for tumours of soft tissue and bone.
His experience in knee arthritis surgery, including partial, or total replacement is helpful to patients. As are skills in reconstruction for sports related injuries, or treatment of rare conditions, including osteonecrosis, PVNS and metabolic bone disease.
The way this treatment is delivered is important to Professor Gibbons, who holds a belief that individually focused care brings the best outcomes.
