MindMotion GO

With virtual reality becoming a real driving force in neurorehabilitaion, we have partnered with MindMaze to undertake an exciting new pilot programme. Utilising the MindMotion GO device which is already available at Royal Bucks, we have worked in partnership to enhance the patients recovery journey and enable them to maintain and continue progress in the comfort of their own home.

What is MindMotion GO?

MindMotion GO brings gamified neurorehabilitation developed by neuroscientists for specialists, built from the ground up to meet user needs and based on a deep understanding of the neuro-therapeutic context.

A first-of-its-kind mobile neurorehabilitation therapy system, MindMotion GO comes with a large variety of gamified engaging activities covering motor and task functions. Thanks to the motivating effects of the 3D virtual environment, early results suggest an increased patient engagement and an engaging on-going therapy plan in the long term.

MindMotion GO has been designed specifically to keep patients training longer, helping to increase therapy dose and recovery potential.

Designed to be utilized in a clinical environment on an inpatient or outpatient basis, MindMotion GO is currently available in European markets and is cleared by the US FDA. It has been trialed by more than 1300 patients across dozens of therapy centers in the UK, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.

Royal Bucks have a longstanding relationship with Mindmaze and were one of the first UK centres to invest in virtual reality therapeutic technology. Working closely with Mindmaze to provide feedback on user experience and clinical outcomes, we are jointly looking at way to ensure that recovery gains made for patients in hospital can be continued at home.

With that aim we have launched an exciting new pilot programme for patients to participate in therapy using the MindMotion technology not just as inpatients or outpatients but back at home in the community. This will give patients a cost-effective solution to continue with a specific and intense programme of rehabilitation which is measured, monitored and reviewed regularly by qualified therapists at Royal Bucks. Our hope is that it will enable patients to maintain the intensity of exercise post discharge so that they retain their level of achieved function, continue recovery and go on to achieve more.

So how will it work?

A MindMotion Go device will be installed for the patient at home to enable them to continue with their prescribed sessions. Real time data will be monitored by the therapy team at Royal Bucks looking at a range of measures to monitor progress and importantly compliance with completing sessions. The therapist will remain in regular communication with the patient to provide them with encouragement and feedback on how they are doing. Ideally during the pilot stage the patient will meet with the therapist to be reviewed and to look at reviewing goals however it is hoped that this can be managed remotely in the future using systems like Skype.

When does the pilot start?

The pilot has already started and we already have a number of people that have signed up to be involved.

How do I get involved?

In order to make the pilot successful, it is important that we record data for a range of different patients with different needs to demonstrate the effectiveness of the programme.

We have currently recruited patients that have worked with us on either an inpatient or outpatient basis however we are interested to hear from other patients as well.

If you are currently case managing an individual who has returned home and is looking at ways of being able to continue rehabilitation perhaps in a slightly different way we would love to hear from you.

We are very happy to discuss the project in more detail or to talk about eligibility and costs for an individual you are working with. You can contact our Lead OT Shiva Jamwal either by calling 01296 678800 or emailing shiva.jamwal@royalbucks.co.uk
