Mr Gwithyen Silk is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery and lower limb arthroplasty. He provides expert assessment and treatment for a wide range of knee conditions, combining modern surgical techniques with personalised, evidence-based care.
Mr Silk studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and the University of Edinburgh before completing his orthopaedic training in the South West of England. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training in knee surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, and the Fortius Clinic, London, developing expertise in both joint preservation and knee replacement surgery.
In 2023, he was awarded the Dutch Travelling Knee Fellowship, where he trained with leading knee surgeons across the Netherlands and gained additional experience in elite sports medicine at the KNVB Campus, home of the Dutch National Football teams.
Mr Silk has particular expertise in robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery and is certified to use the VELYS™, MAKO™ and ROSA® robotic systems. He also incorporates enhanced recovery and physiotherapy-led rehabilitation pathways to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
Alongside his private practice, Mr Silk is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Northampton General Hospital, specialising in lower limb arthroplasty and soft tissue knee surgery.
Research & Teaching
Mr Silk is actively involved in orthopaedic research, education and surgical training. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, regularly presents at national and international meetings, and is committed to advancing knee surgery through research, innovation and the training of future orthopaedic surgeons.
