Mr Jeremy Hoffman is a highly regarded consultant ophthalmologist and corneal surgeon based in Buckinghamshire. He specialises in cataract surgery, vision correction and complex corneal disorders, including keratoconus and Fuchs’ dystrophy, and is experienced in managing conditions such as pterygium, dry eye and blepharitis. Recognised for his advanced skills in both surgical and laser-based treatments, he offers comprehensive care for patients with diseases of the front of the eye, with a particular reputation in the management of corneal infections.
He trained at some of London’s most prestigious teaching hospitals, including Moorfields Eye Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and The Western Eye Hospital. Following specialist ophthalmology training, he completed dual fellowships in Corneal, External Eye Disease and Refractive Surgery at Moorfields. Mr Hoffman also holds a PhD from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine for his research into fungal corneal infections, which included managing multi-national clinical trials in Nepal, Tanzania and Uganda. Alongside his private practice, he leads the Corneal and Emergency Eye Diseases Service at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and holds a Senior Clinical Research Fellowship at LSHTM.
Mr Hoffman has published over 40 scientific papers and presented his research internationally across Europe, Africa and Asia. He is actively involved in teaching, supervising MSc and PhD students, and shaping postgraduate ophthalmology education. Combining evidence-based medicine with a focus on patient experience, he aims to provide clear, personalised advice and the highest standard of care, whether for complex corneal conditions, cataract surgery, or vision correction.
Research Interests
Mr. Hoffman is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow and Clinical Trialist at the International Centre for Eye Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is an integral member of the research team led by Professor Matthew Burton, focusing on improving eye health in low- and middle-income countries, with a particular expertise in corneal infections.
His research has been supported by prestigious funders, including the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and the Wellcome Trust, resulting in over 40 peer-reviewed publications. Mr. Hoffman recently completed his PhD on treatment options for fungal keratitis, overseeing multi-national clinical trials in Nepal, Tanzania, and Uganda.
In addition to his research, he serves as module co-lead for the Ocular Infections module on the MSc in Public Health for Eye Care, sharing his expertise in managing complex eye health studies.
