Mr Swarna qualified in medicine and surgery from The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, India in 1996. His speciality training in rehabilitation medicine took place in the UK, at Thames Valley Deanery, part of the University of Oxford.
He was admitted to the GMC’s Specialist Register for Rehabilitation Medicine in 2020. Consultancy positions soon followed, with Mr Swarna developing a reputation for dedication to the patients he supported.
Mr Swarna’s special interests include treating acute, or abnormal muscle tightness, or contraction, hypersalivation management and migraine control. His skills in treating complex neuropathic pain are welcomed by patients.
This can involve the use of medical cannabis, with other conditions such as migraine benefiting from botulinum toxin injections. He also undertakes trigger point injections and intra articular injections for pain management.
Mr Swarna’s skills in diagnosis and management of spinal cord related issues are exceptional. The same applies to his use of more established treatment, such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, exoskeletons, or an anti-gravity treadmill.
He simply believes that the most appropriate treatment should be available to each person, part of an holistic approach that his patients value.
Research & Teaching
Mr Swarna has a strong passion for research and developing academic knowledge of rehabilitation medicine. He has authored and co-authored several publications, along with publishing research articles.
They include trace element deficiency in relation to pressure ulcers, electrolyte imbalance following spinal cord injury, complications related to parenteral nutrition and bladder malignancies in spinal cord injury patients.
