At The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital we invest in the most recent and innovative technology to help in the physiotherapy programmes of our patients. Our experienced physiotherapists know how to make the most of our equipment to help our patients reach their full potential.
Ekso GT Bionic Suit
Ekso GT is a wearable robot which helps individuals with any amount of lower extremity weakness to stand up an walk with a natural, fully weight bearing gait. Walking is achieved by the user’s weight shifts or the push of a button. Battery-powered motors drive the legs, replacing deficient neuromuscular function.
THE BENEFITS
Provides a means for people with as much as complete
paralysis and minimal forearm strength to stand and walk.
Helps patients re-learn proper step patterns and weight
shifts using a functional based platform.
Facilitates intensive step dosage over ground.
WHO CAN BENEFIT
The Ekso GT is intended for supervised use with individuals who have various levels of paralysis, hemiparesis or lower extremity wakness due to neurological conditions. The patient needs sufficient upper extremity strength to balance with crutches or a walker, or functional strength through one side of the body in case of hemiplegia. Patients must also be between 150-190cm tall and weigh no more than 100k.
Admissions
Access to the Ekso GT Bionic Suit is available for both in-patients and out-patients.

AlterG Anti Gravity
Developed with innovative technology from NASA, AlterG provides the opportunity to exercise through injury and rehabilitate more quickly. AlterG’s unique unweighting technology reduces the impact of walking or running while your body goes through the normal healing process. AlterG’s unique differential air pressure technology provides accurate, safe and comfortable partial weight-bearing therapy while promoting normal gait patterns, helping to avoid bad habits that may lead to further injury.
THE BENEFITS
- Rehabilitate lower extremity injuries with less pain and less impact while maintaining a normal gait.
- Reduce the stress to joints and muscles on injured areas of the lower body.
- Personalised programmes and accurate monitoring – individuals can select any weight between 20% and 100% of their body weight by 1% increments.
- Confidence and ability to run or walk longer and recover faster with less pain.
- Improves mobility, strength and safety for those with neurological conditions.
- Reduces the risk of further injury, which may enable patients to heal faster.
- Provide a safe way to lose weight and exercise more intensively while unweighted.
- Recover effectively and with less pain after training or competition.
WHO CAN BENEFIT
For patients recovering from surgery, injury or stroke, the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill offers a revolutionary approach to rehabilitation – the ability to defy gravity and work towards regaining function without pain. AlterG helps a broad spectrum of people from top level athletes, orthopedic and neurological patients, the elderly and those looking to lose weight – to achieve their personal health, wellness or performance goals.

THE BENEFITS
- Reverse muscle atrophy.
- Improve local circulation.
- Increase range of motion.
- Reduce muscle spasms.
- When leg cycling, stimulate up to 10 muscle groups in one or both of your legs and your trunk.
- When arm cycling, you can stimulate up to 10 muscle groups in one or both of your arms and your trunk.
WHO CAN BENEFIT
Patients who have sustained spinal injury or have been affected by stroke or other conditions that impair the movement of the lower limbs are the patients that will mostly benefit from this equipment.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY EQUIPMENT

Rehabilitation of an injury is a long process that requires full commitment from both patient and staff. At The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital, we rely on highly trained medical staff, specialised in recovery, and on the latest technology.
Tyrosolution Pablo
The Pablo uses an interactive way for therapists to work with the patients to access their current movements and show this. Visually, so the patient can see their goals. Together they can then choose from a selection of therapy games designed to relearn and strengthen movements for one or both arms and hands. These are tuned to the patient’s ability, stretching them slightly to encourage movement.
THE BENEFITS
- The ability to achieve a high number of repetitions – more intensive therapy can lead to quicker gains.
- Forced use of the affected area – in conventional therapy it may be harder for the patient to mobilise an injured limb, particularly if this is painful.
- Use of visual or auditory cues to guide the patient and keep them engaged.
- An external instead focus of attention (instead of an internal focus) to make the exercise less arduous.
- Targeted progression as difficulty is increased in relation to individual patient goals.
- Goals can be pre-determined and registered with the computer so the patients is visually and acoustically aware of their performance target for the session and overall goal.
- The virtual reality of the computer system compensates for the lack of relevance to everyday situations, making the exercise more relevant and enjoyable.
- High motivation and the ‘fun factor’ due to serious gaming.
WHO CAN BENEFIT
Tyrosolution provides holistic rehabilitation for the upper limbs for patients with various conditions such as spasticity, hypertension, bio-mechanical and musculoskeletal deficits. The system is beneficial for the treatment of associated problems such as restrictions of postural control, balance and cognition.
